The package of bills include: HB 19, (increasing penalties for felony offenders with weapons violations; HB 215, (bonuses to experienced officers who continue to serve; HB 217, (help for inmate health issues); HB 266, (increased requirements for ignition interlock devices; and HB 271, (penalties for nonviolent crimes and caseload management to allow District Attorneys and public defenders to better focus on serious crimes.
This group of bills is quickly working its way through the Senate before it goes back to the House for final reconciliation. NMBC is hopeful that bi-partisan cooperation continues and this package of bills makes it to the Governor’s desk.
