U.S. unemployment rate falls to lowest level in 50 years

In spite of the recent slowdown in hiring rates, the U.S. job market and unemployment levels especially are looking very optimistic. The biggest gains were in health care, which added 41,400 jobs, and professional and business services, which include such higher-paying areas as engineering and accounting. Excluding government hiring, private-sector job gains over the past three months have slowed to an average of 119,000 a month, the weakest showing in seven years but overall employment levels are at a 50 year peak.
