Don't let New Mexico's future go up in smoke!

Tell our New Mexico Legislators that legalizing recreational marijuana is not the right move.

New Mexico is a phenomenal state with great people but we have floundered for decades on how best to empower working families, improve the quality of life and provide a brighter future for our children.

Unfortunately, some legislators and Governor Lujan Grisham think legalizing marijuana will provide a new source of tax revenue and will be good for our state. They point to Colorado as a model of success. What they should be focusing on are recent studies that show all the economic and social costs that have resulted in Colorado after cannabis was legalized.

There are so many things that New Mexico is already struggling with (homelessness, mental illness, addictions, crime, etc.), the last thing we need is to legalize a drug that could make things worse.

Take 30 seconds and use the form provided to send an email to all state legislators asking them to VOTE NO on legalizing recreational marijuana.

Dear Legislator, I'm writing today asking you to focus on important issues to improve our state during the 30-day session and that you vote against any legislation to legalize recreational marijuana. Following are a few reasons why: 1. New Mexico is confronted with a high homeless population, mental illness challenges that have not been adequately addressed, high addiction rates, poor performance of some students, and a challenging hiring environment. Legalizing recreational marijuana will hurt, not help, any of these problems. 2. Due to the lack of valid testing for DUI and other issues with crime and public safety, Sheriff Glenn Hamilton representing the NM Sheriff's Association said, "With respect to the legalization of recreational marijuana, New Mexico should strive to be last, not next." 3. Studies from Colorado document the overall social costs that taxpayers and businesses are burdened with far outweigh the 'income' from taxing the sale of marijuana. Again, I encourage you to vote no on any legislation to legalize the sale of recreational marijuana. Thank you for your service to our state and your consideration of my comments. Sincerely,
