It’s Not About Being a D or a R

Some Democratic leaders came out within days of Rep Easley’s passing urging Governor Martinez to stick to party lines (Democrat in this case) when naming a replacement.* The governor’s spokesperson, Enrique Knell voiced the sentiment of the NMBC and many New Mexicans when he said, “As she does with all nominations, the governor will look for the most qualified candidate to serve and represent this district.”

This same sentiment (it’s not about being a Democrat or Republican, it’s about doing what’s right for the people of New Mexico), was expressed by Rep Sandra Jeff a couple of years ago. You can view the video here.

*Question of the day: Why was this not the sentiment of Democratic leaders at the time the governor was taxed with appointing a replacement for Senator Kent Cravens? Not a peep was heard and the governor was given no choice from the county commission recommendations as to the candidate to be appointed.

NMBC, a nonpartisan association believes qualifications should always outweigh political party affiliation. We applaud Governor Martinez and the other NMBC Heroes who place doing what is right for all the people of New Mexico over personal and political agendas. Speaking of HEROES, it’s time to RSVP for the 2013 Heroes Luncheon – see below.
