NMED and state agencies gathering input on produced water and proposed regulations

Earlier this year Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed the Produced Water Act (HB546) into law, allowing for water used in oil and gas production to be recycled for further use. Last week meetings were held in Farmington and Carlsbad to determine public opinion and discuss new regulations on Produced Water. NMBC representatives were in attendance at the Farmington public meeting to provide a voice of reason and balance to the conversation.

NMBC Chief of Staff Larry Sonntag was quoted in the Farmington Daily Times coverage of the meeting.  He praised the goals of minimizing fresh water usage in oil and gas production and reducing the amount of produced water injected into the ground to protect groundwater. Read more HERE.
