A Special Thank You to Sandoval County Commissioners Jordan Juarez and Jon Herr
This season of gratitude reminds us of the everyday heroes who run toward danger so the rest of us can sleep safely at night. It also reminds us that their families carry the heaviest burden when the ultimate sacrifice is made.
That’s why the New Mexico Business Coalition (NMBC) and Better Together New Mexico are proud to host the annual Heroes Event – a night to honor the fallen and to ensure their children never walk alone.
This year, two Sandoval County leaders turned words of appreciation into life-changing action.
Commissioners Jordan Juarez and Jon Herr made a generous contribution to the Fallen First Responder Scholarship Fund that fully funds an entire scholarship – covering higher education or vocational training for one child of a fallen hero.
With ten children currently on the waiting list and more families added far too often, gifts like this are literally the difference between a dream deferred and a future made possible.
“Honoring the memory of our fallen first responders by investing in their children is one of the greatest privileges we have as commissioners,” said Commissioner Juarez. “These heroes laid down their lives for all of us – the least we can do is make sure their kids have every opportunity to succeed.
”Commissioner Herr added, “This scholarship is more than a check – it’s a promise kept. A promise that New Mexico will never forget the sacrifice, and we will always take care of the families left behind.
Thanks to leaders like Commissioners Juarez and Herr, the legacy of our fallen lives on in classrooms, trade schools, and the next generation of New Mexicans who will never forget where their freedom to chase their dreams came from.
Their example lights the way. Together, we can make sure no child of a fallen first responder is ever left behind.
