Governor Lujan Grisham has announced launching her re-election campaign and is touting how, under her leadership, New Mexico is doing great compared to other states. All this while negative rankings on crime, unemployment and other issues pile up. A recent article from Yahoo Finance titled, ‘States Whose Economies are Failing vs. States Whose Economies are Thriving,’ adds another unflattering designation listing New Mexico as the worst, failing economy in the nation.
It’s a truism that elections have consequences. If voters are happy with conditions in our state, the Governor wants to keep her job for another 4 years. If New Mexicans are troubled by numerous outside rankings that say our state is one of or the worst in the nation in too many categories, they will have options for new leadership that will be on the 2022 general election ballot.
