Sheriff Dan Houston spoke about transparency in law enforcement and updated the crowd on the work of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department. He talked about hosting the show, Cops, and said it is designed to showcase the exemplary work of the men and women serving the Sheriff’s Department, but that he remains open to discussion about proceeding with it. Bernalillo County Commissioner Wayne Johnson talked about the illegal passage of “Taxpayer Protection Act,” by the Bernalillo County Commission. He explained the impact of this new ‘tax’ to utility customers in the unincorporated areas of Bernalillo. The Act is being challenged in federal court.
