CMMC (Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification) is regarding compliance. The Government decided to expand upon the NIST-800-171 requirements. When they chose to do this they came up with a tiered system of approval versus an all inclusive one.
What this entails is meeting different certification level requirements. Level one has a smaller amount of compliance points you need to meet and has lower value in the types of jobs you can bid on. Level 5 is the most advanced and requires complete compliance.
