Albuquerque’s Crime Problem Hurts The State Business Environment

While the rate of homicides has leveled off and the number of other crimes like burglary and and vehicle theft have decreased, there were 36% more shootings this year than over the same time period last year, according to the District Attorney’s office. DA spokesman Michael Patrick stated “The largest percentage of gun violence in Bernalillo County is caused by a small percentage of loosely organized groups. …” he said. “Gun violence is a priority of the DA’s Office and (we) want to reduce it in our community. 
 
NMBC’s position is that ‘Public Safety breeds prosperity.‘ New Mexico needs public officials who will strengthen the criminal code, reform our courts to stop repeat offenders and the current ‘catch and release’ problem. Until New Mexico is deemed safer, we cannot attract new companies or maintain those that we have. New Mexicans deserve to feel safe in their communities. Read the full story HERE
