2024 NM CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATES

It’s important that voter’s are careful who they elect to represent our state in Washington D.C. since their decisions impact all New Mexicans, whether good or bad. We encourage voters to look at the qualifications, experience, and priorities of each candidate, not their party, so good leadership is elected. Listed below are the major candidates running for these positions:

Senator Martin Heinrich (D)(I)

Experience:

  • He served in the AmeriCorps, worked as a mechanical engineer, while managing nonprofits, and founding a public affairs consulting firm.
  • He was appointed to the NM Natural Resources Trustee in 2006, spent four years on the Albuquerque City Council, and represented New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House from 2009 to 2013.
  • He has been a U.S. Senator since 2013.

Nella Domenici (R)

Experience:

  • She has worked primarily in finance including holding senior positions at Citadel and Credit Suisse First Boston, then becoming the CFO of Bridgewater Associates.
  • She has advised, invested in, grown, and led many companies – in addition to serving on public company boards – in financial matters.
  • She has also worked in healthcare, AI, food service, lodging, commercial real estate, mortgage lending, and consumer products.

Representative Melanie Stansbury (D)(I)

Experience:

  • She has worked as a science educator, in the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, and as a consultant.
  • She was the representative for NM House District 28 from 2019-2021
  • She has represented New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District since 2021.

Steve Jones (R)

Experience:

  • He has worked as a management consultant and executive in the energy industry, as a partner in a CPA firm, and as a college accounting instructor.
  • He is also the President of the Active Corps of Executives (“ACE” Chapter of the SBA), a consultant for small minority businesses and the President of Senegalese American Chamber of Commerce.

Representative Gabe Vasquez (D)(I)

Experience:

  • He has worked as a journalist, as executive director of the Hispano Chamber of Commerce de Las Cruces, and as a field rep. for Sen. Martin Heinrich.
  • He has also served as the District 3 city council for the City of Las Cruces.
  • He has represented New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District since 2023.

Former Representative Yvette Herrell (R)

Experience:

  • She has worked as a realtor, a business owner, and entrepreneur.
  • She has served four terms in the NM House, representing District 51 from 2011-2019.
  • She has also represented New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District from 2020-2022.

Candidate Priorities :

Representative Teresa Ledger-Fernandez (D)(I)

Experience:

  • She has worked as counsel and a strategist with Leger Law & Strategy, as the vice-chair of the Council on Historic Preservation with the Obama administration, and as a White House Fellow during the Clinton administration.
  • She has also worked as a liaison between the White House Office and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
  • She has represented New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District since 2021.

Sharon Clahchischilliage (R)

Experience:

  • She has worked as a teacher and as a psychiatric social worker, while working on Indian and tribal health issues as Lieutenant, Commissioned Corps Officer, United States Public Health Service and for the Indian Health Service.
  • She was appointed as Tribal Affairs Officer with the Children, Youth and Families (CYFD), Office of the Cabinet Secretary, The State of New Mexico, and other positions with the Navajo Nation.
  • She has also served in the NM House, representing District 4 from 2013–2018 and in the New Mexico Public Education Commission (District 5) since 2022.
