Primary Guide for DTS / Independent Voters

Official 2026 Statewide Update

Senate Bill 16 allows Decline to State (DTS) and Unaffiliated voters to participate in major party primaries without changing their registration.

How to Vote

In-Person

At Early Voting or on Election Day, simply inform the poll worker which party’s ballot (Democratic or Republican) you wish to use. No registration switch is required.

Absentee / Mail

Indicate your party choice on your absentee application. Your voter registration status stays exactly the same after you cast your vote.
