Are there any elected officials left who listen?

Are there any elected officials left who actually listen to the voters who put them in office when they make important financial decisions?

NMBC is happy to respond, “Yes, there are a few!”

The Albuquerque City Council recently held a vote (that passed 5 to 2) to place a question on the next ballot for the city to borrow $50 million dollars to fund a ‘bare-bones’ sports stadium. One of the sponsors pushing the sports stadium issue (Issac Benton) said, “Without question, there are questions, and these questions need to be answered.” Many unanswered questions, but Benton and four other counselors still voted to send the issue forward. NMBC would like to point out that ‘without question,’ given the record homicide rates in ABQ, homelessness problems, high unemployment rates and other quality of life issues, there are more important things to focus on.

The good news is that two counselors, citing feedback from their constituents, voted ‘NO.’ NMBC applauds Albuquerque City Councilors Trudy Jones and Brook Bassan for putting partisan and/or personal agendas aside and listening to the people they work for!
