Business Spotlight: Caren Cowan of the New Mexico Stockman Magazine

New Mexico Business Coalition (NMBC) has grown over the past fifteen years into a formidable, outspoken advocate for pro-business public policy and increased private sector job opportunities for New Mexicans. One of the key elements of a brighter future is great businesses that provide the jobs, products and services that improve the quality of life for all New Mexicans. NMBC is glad to profile some of those businesses: This week we feature Caren Cowan of the New Mexico Stockman Magazine.

Caren Cowan grew up on a multigenerational ranch in Southeastern Arizona to then attend Eastern Arizona and the University of Arizona, obtaining a degree in Agricultural Communications. In 2009, Caren began putting her knowledge and experiences to the test by publishing the New Mexico Stockman magazine while simultaneously producing the monthly Livestock Market Digest newspaper. Both publications focus on all the issues affecting private property rights and the maintenance of businesses of all sizes, in today’s unstable markets, in addition to general livestock news.

Since 1939, the New Mexico Stockman magazine has been the voice of the New Mexico livestock community and has grown to have readership from all over the world, including 43 states from Maine to Hawaii.

For many years, the magazine was dedicated solely to livestock news and now, Caren and her team have been able to expand the reach of the magazine to Western Lifestyle and the Rodeo world at all levels.

Caren Cowan has been involved in various aspects of the community from serving as the executive director of the New Mexico Cattle Growers’ Association for 23 years, the executive director for the New Mexico Wool Growers, Inc. for a total of 26 years, obtaining the Cattleman of the Year award in 2020, and all the events her magazine has helped us sponsor. So take the time to learn about Caren Cowan’s magazines and consider subscribing to either publication HERE.
