Catch and Release is Over?

New Mexico is #2 in the nation for crime, right under Alaska, and it’s due to our “Catch and Release” court system. This policy has allowed criminals to repeatedly offend, get arrested, then quickly get let back on the streets to commit those same crimes. This “Catch and Release” policy has been hotly debated by many candidates and voters alike, begging the question, will our communities ever be safe again?

The Executive Order was originally signed and put into effect by Governor Lujan Grisham over 2 and a half years ago. This policy allowed hundreds of convicted criminals to be released early and has resulted in crime rates going up.

During the Governor debate on September 30, 2022, candidate Mark Ronchetti pointed out this order by the Governor. Less than a week later, the Governor took back this order and has now called for national help and attention, when she originally declined the help. As we approach this election, crime will continue to be a major talking point, so NMBC encourages voters to get educated on candidates in all areas of government, who will help reduce crime.

A State Rep put together some commentary insight on this issue and how no more “Catch and Release” will affect our state. You can read all about it by clicking or tapping HERE.
