When ordinary citizens are fed up with a lack of action and accountability from elected officials, things can get interesting! The leader of Coalition of Concerned Citizens in Action, Juan Garcia, recently put up a huge billboard in Las Cruces to send a strong message to city councilors. Juan stated that “The intent was to call out the Las Cruces City Council for their failure to acknowledge the plight of the citizens and victims. Time and time again, citizens will go to Public Input and the indication is their concerns fall on deaf ears.”
In response to this billboard, one city councilor called this a “scare tactic” and in her eyes, the group is “fearmongering.” Juan Garcia stated that the city councilor’s response against this billboard and the group are “sadly predictable,” when speaking at the October 3rd city council meeting. Groups like these are helping to improve the lives of all New Mexicans and is a great example of how we can come together and demand more action and accountability from our own leadership.
