A recent report by WalletHub.com gives detail on states with the best and worst taxpayer Return on Investment (ROI). In New Mexico, some elected officials continue to use their power to raise taxes. They say we need to ‘invest’ more in our school system and other government services in order to have better results.
Do higher taxes result in improved services? The WalletHub report indicates that overall, NM’s taxpayer ROI is not good. We are ranked 48th in some categories with leading indicators like the NM school system coming in dead last. On the other hand, the report shows that states that have eliminated personal income tax and minimized other taxes have a much higher ROI.
