As a result of the Local Election Act, which went into effect on July 1, 2018, New Mexico will consolidate all local elections from across the state to be held at the same time. The goal of the Local Election Act (LEA) is to improve efficiency, alleviate voter confusion, and reduce the costs associated with administering multiple elections through the state at different times. It also aims to provide a more consistent experience for voters and increase turnout at the polls by reducing the confusion around when an election takes place, where polling locations are, and when early voting begins.
