Legislative Update: The push to increase the state minimum wage — a steath bill titled PUBLIC PEACE, HEALTH, SAFETY & WELFARE, HB668, sponsored by Representative Miguel Garcia, passed the House Labor and Human Resources Committee last night.

The senate version, titled RAISE MINIMUM WAGE, SB416, sponsored by Senator Richard Martinez, is scheduled to be heard this afternoon before the Senate Corporations and Transportation Committee.

And a compromise bill on NM Driver’s Licenses, HB606, sponsored by Representative Paul Pacheco, with 37 co-sponsors from both parties was tabled last night by the House Labor and Human Resources Committee. Five Democrat legislators killed the Driver’s License bill, refusing to let the bill continue to other committees even though it had bipartisan support.

The NMBC encourages you to contact members of these committees and tell them how you feel about their job performance on these issues.
