Final Count from 2021 Legislative Session: 158 bills signed by Governor,

As of Friday evening the Governor has signed 158 bills and vetoed 17 others. Some of the bills rejected by the Governor include SB 375 which would have provided additional training and resources for law enforcement, and SB 328 which would have raised revenue by changing the fees paid by water and sewer utilities.

There are many, but one of the more egregious, anti-business bills the Governor signed will mandate ALL NM businesses that have even one employee provide one hour of paid sick leave for each 30 hours worked. The law applies to part time and seasonal workers too and will be a nightmare of record keeping and financial liability, especially for small businesses. NMBC agrees with state legislators’ arguments that no employee should have to resort to working while sick. The issue with this bill is that it was written without a word of input from the NM business community.

Friday was the deadline for the Governor to sign any legislation from the 2021 regular Legislative Session. All bills not signed by the deadline are considered to be “pocket vetoed”. For the official list of all bills signed and vetoed by the Governor click HERE.
