Looking Ahead, NM Will Have a Shortage of Skilled Tradespeople

At the moment, with businesses reopening and the economy working its way back from the pandemic, New Mexico has barely enough skilled tradespeople. Looking ahead, there are many large construction projects on the horizon that will result in a “severe shortage”, according to John Stroud, President of JB Henderson Construction Company.

Over the last year the NMBC, has worked hard to get the message across that New Mexico has a huge need for more training in manufacturing and construction jobs. We believe this issue must be addressed by our government officials and our education system. Bringing back those high school courses, such as wood working, automotive, or shop class, is sorely needed. Manufacturing and construction jobs are plentiful and we need skilled workers to fill them.
