Officer Golson, a former Marine, was shot 4 times after pulling over a suspected drunk driver in January of this year. Although wounded and on the ground, the veteran officer returned fire and was able to give responding officers a clear description and direction of the shooter’s escape. After months of rehabilitation and pain, Officer Golson has returned to limited duty work with APD. But Golson is not content with an office job. After more than 31 years of police service, he can’t wait to get back on the streets with the DWI Unit.

Officer Golson has every reason to be angry about being shot, but that doesn’t fit his character. “Anger takes up way too much energy. I prefer staying positive, that’s what’s gotten me where I’m at today,” Golson said to a news reporter. “Is he (the man who shot Golson) a sociopath? Yeah. Am I angry with him? No, like I said, it takes up way too much energy.” We are proud to honor Officer Golson as the 2015 Hero of the Year. Read more about Officer Golson HERE.

The keynote address at the 2015 Heroes Luncheon will be delivered by U.S. Marshal Conrad E. Candelaria, who also has a distinguished career of law enforcement service to his community and the state of New Mexico. The Heroes Luncheon will be held at the Marriott Pyramid North (Albuquerque), on August 27, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.

We will announce more Heroes soon – stay tuned!
