MLK Valued Integrity – Does CNM?

“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”

NMBC believes the ongoing value of great leaders like Dr. King is that his words continue to impact our world can be applied to current events.

What can we Learn From MLK? When it comes ‘thinking intensively and critically,’ voters in Bernalillo County, Rio Rancho and Corrales should understand that passing the CNM $84 million Bond will nearly double the property tax capital mil levy rate for all of Bernalillo County, Rio Rancho and Corrales. But here’s the real critical thinking part of this issue:

If intelligence plus character is the true goal of education as Dr. King said, then CNM has missed the mark. Why? CNM says the bond and tax increase is “…critically important…to better serve and educate its growing student body.”

The truth is that CNM student population has declined significantly over the past 5 years and CNM had to cut 490 classes in 2015 because of empty classrooms. Here is the proof from a 2015 news story.

Early voting started Wednesday, 1/13/15, at five locations – more information HERE.

Election day is February 2, with 30 voting sites available – more information HERE.

NMBC supports teacher raises and providing the best educational materials possible for students. The requested tax increase for building more underused facilities will do neither.

Help us let Bernalillo County, Rio Rancho and Corrales property owners know that their taxes will go up if the CNM Bond is passed. Your $5 donation will help NMBC get the word out.
