NMBC Represents NM in D.C.

National News: NMBC attended the Council of State Manufacturing Associations Conference (COSMA) and represented New Mexico at an invitation only White House Economic Roundtable. Last week NMBC President & CEO Carla Sonntag attended COSMA in South Carolina along with CEOs from other state associations to discuss common interests, opportunities and challenges that manufacturing and other businesses are facing.

Also last week, the National Economic Council (NEC) hosted a virtual roundtable and NMBC’s Carla Sonntag was the only business leader from New Mexico invited to participate. While Biden administration officials focused on ‘investments’ of tax dollars and some positive metrics on expansion of U.S. manufacturing, CEOs who work on the front lines shared the reality that most businesses are struggling to navigate duplicative and harmful regulations. The administration speakers included NEC Director Lael Brainard, NEC Deputy Director Celeste Drake, Senior Advisor to the President Mitch Landrieu and several other key White House staffers.

The COSMA conference and the NEC roundtable events solidify NMBC’s position as a voice of reason and strong advocate for private sector growth in New Mexico and nationwide. They also strengthen NMBC’s commitment to work with our national regulatory coalition partners to engage directly with the White House over the coming months to continue sharing opposition to overburdensome taxation and regulations.
