Stop the McKinley County GRT Tax Hike

Here we go again! This time, it is the McKinley County Commissioners looking to increase the Gross Receipts Tax (GRT).

McKinley County is already among the highest GRTs in the state. For a smaller, more rural community, this increase will create an untenable situation for both residents and local businesses.

Why This Matters:

  • Pyramiding Costs: The New Mexico GRT is a flawed tax system that taxes every purchase, often pyramiding taxes on construction and services many times over.
  • Consumer Impact: Businesses are forced to pass this tax onto consumers just to stay in business.
  • Bad Timing: Costs are rising, and businesses and consumers are already hurting. This is not the time to raise taxes.

Act NOW! Please contact the McKinley County Commissioners and urge them to vote NO on an increased GRT.
