That SPAM call could be the State Tax and Revenue Department

Today the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department began reaching out to taxpayers who have missed the July 15th deadline for filing. The outbound calls from the department’s upgraded call center at 866-285-2996 are not spam calls or robocalls, spokesman Charlie Moore said. He added that the department will not be calling to ask for money, but rather wants to establish a connection and provide options and plans for citizens to meet their tax obligations.

The department does not regularly make outgoing calls but has done so in the past. With the confusion around COVID-19 and the disruption to both personal and business finances, the Tax and Revenue Department has increased its support options and reduced wait times for incoming calls and allowed employees to field calls at home. “Anecdotally, we know some people are falling behind,” Moore said. “This is an effort to reach out.” Read more HERE.
