The Truth About the ABQ City Council Election
The New Mexico Business Coalition (NMBC), along with many voters, has had enough of candidates who feel it is necessary to try and destroy their opponents personally and/or professionally with statements that are untruthful (or unverifiable at best) in order to win an election. We don’t care in which party the candidate is registered; we believe New Mexican voters deserve verifiable facts and that’s what they get from the NMBC.
Setting the Record Straight On the ABQ Council Runoff Election:
1. In a recent attack mailer, paid for by a union under the name ‘Duke City Rising,’ City Councilor Janice Arnold-Jones is accused of “opposing a bill requiring hospitals to inform survivors of sexual assault about emergency contraception.”
MISLEADING, AT BEST: The ‘bill’ mentioned in the attack mail piece was introduced when Janice Arnold-Jones was a state representative. The bill was flawed in several ways to include criminal penalties directed at hospital staff; it also required the morning after pill be available to 12 year old girls without parental knowledge or a prescription! It is TRUE that Janice Arnold-Jones voted to PROTECT OUR CHILDREN and said ‘no’ to this terrible legislation. It is FALSE that she voted to oppose giving victims of sexual assault information about emergency contraceptives.
2. In another attack mailer paid for by a union group, it is alleged that City Councilor Janice Arnold-Jones, “Told a Tea Party forum she will reintroduce a controversial bill letting the City of Albuquerque limit a rape victim’s access to abortion even if voters vote it down.” FALSE: This statement has no basis in truth; it is a lie. The fact is, people who were at the forum in question will tell you City Councilor Janice Arnold-Jones never made that statement.
3. The union-backed challenger put out a mailer to voters asking their help to stop City Councilor Janice Arnold-Jones. The challenger says she is the only candidate ‘who respects ABQ women and trusts them to make personal choices.’ FALSE: The truth is Janice Arnold-Jones voted to allow a city issue concerning ‘women’s choice’ to be placed on the ballot. The challenger DOES NOT RESPECT WOMEN OR TRUST THEM ON THIS ISSUE. The challenger said if she was a city councilor, she would not allow the ‘Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance’ to be voted on by Albuquerque women (or men).
ABQ VOTERS SHOULD BE WARY OF UNION BOUGHT CANDIDATES: President Obama just exempted HIS big Union supporters from millions of dollars in Obamacare Taxes. This was to thank them for all the money they spent to help him get elected. Unions in Albuquerque are doing everything they can to ensure that City Councilor Janice Arnold-Jones’ challenger is elected. What do you suppose Unions will get in return if the challenger wins?
Early Voting is underway; in-person voting on Tuesday, November 19th.
