This’ Not the First Time Our Voice Has Been Limited

NMBC is testifying in committee hearings daily so we know that allowing public comments isn’t something that committee leadership always follows: When testifying against HB 27 & HB 129, Rep. Christine Chandler, chair of the House Judiciary Committee, limited public comments in opposition of the bill only to those physically present, ignoring those who were waiting hours to speak on Zoom. Read more HERE.

This isn’t the first time Rep. Chandler has limited public comments. While discussing HB 7 last year, she only allowed those who signed up before the meeting to speak, even though it wasn’t required for that meeting or previous ones, according to her staff. NMBC sent her a letter expressing our concerns, yet never received a response. 
 
Since 2024 is an election year and all state Representatives and Senators will be on the ballot, you can count on NMBC to hold elected officials accountable by sharing in-depth information that can be used by voters.
