Governor Lujan-Grisham is currently facing backlash over her line veto of a Gross Receipts Tax reduction that was in the Omnibus Tax package HB 547. Although the initial idea of reducing GRT sounds like a great idea, our Governor stated simply that this bill would’ve New Mexicans “too fast and too soon.”
NMBC President Carla Sonntag was interviewed by KOB4 concerning the NM tax system and said, “…We truly need a rewrite of the system.” The real issue is not taxes itself, but the fact that the New Mexican government taxes people more than they should in an effort to expand government spending which leaves many New Mexican families without the finances to afford the needed day-to-day items.
