Will Commissioners Slap Voters with Tax Hike?

A GRT, according to economists, is ‘regressive,’ meaning that it hits low income families the hardest. Why do some Bernalillo County Commissioners support raising the GRT even though it hurts poor, working families the most at a time when we already have extremely high levels of poverty? That is what voters need to ask Maggie Hart Stebbins, Debbie O’Malley and Art De La Cruz, who are the only Commissioners who’ve said they support raising the GRT. According to an Albuquerque Journal article, the proposed GRT increase will take about $160 a year away from the average Bernalillo County resident.
