“Refusal of Suitable Work”

Even with many ‘Help Wanted’ and ‘Now Hiring’ signs all over town, many businesses are still finding it hard to fill their needed positions.

One main cause for a lack of workforce, is due to many New Mexicans still receiving Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits. And although many employers have been seeking help and sending out job offers, many have declined, due to the benefits received from UI.

So what can be done? How can employers solve this problem? If an employer offers a job to a qualified person and that person refuses to work, doesn’t show up, etc., the employer can report that person to the NM Dept. of Workforce Solutions for “Refusal of Suitable Work.” This new tool is accessible on their website HERE and will hopefully get New Mexicans back to work.
