Alexander Uballez, the Biden-appointed U.S. Attorney for the District of New Mexico, made some disturbing comments in a recent interview with KRQE. In his interview, Uballez shared his approach to violent crime in Albuquerque, “[We are] stepping out of our traditional roles in the courtroom, stepping out of our traditional roles of kicking in doors and putting on handcuffs, and approaching them with care and with love.”
Is this soft-on-crime approach working? Not at all! Crime is higher than it has been in years and it is affecting everyday life for those who live and work in Albuquerque. In mid-August, the City of Albuquerque was awarded $2 million in federal funding towards the Violence Intervention Program and Uballez is looking for even more federal funding to tackle the issue! The issue is not a lack of funding, but the lack of accountability from elected officials. Because families no longer feel safe, many people and businesses are leaving our state.
We need to go back to being a country that enforces laws and punishes criminals for their actions, because the ‘care’ and ‘love’ approach has emboldened violent criminals instead of preventing more crimes from happening in the city.
