State permanent funds on track to provide $1 billion a year to New Mexico’s general fund and schools: Thanks to FY 2017’s robust performance, New Mexico’s Land Grand Permanent Fund and Severence Tax funds will pay out a record $903 million to the general fund in FY 2018, up from $842.5 million last year. NMBC has worked tirelessly over the past 8 years to protect our state permanent funds and sees this news as proof that leaving the distribution rates at the current levels will lead to larger and larger dividends for current and future generations. NM Senators receive award for work on mental health treatment: State Senator Mary Kay Papen, D-Las Cruces, former U.S. Senator Peter Domenici are joint recipients of the national 2016 Torrey Advocacy Award, the highest honor given by The Treatment Advocacy Center in recognition of courageous efforts to make treatment possible for more people with severe mental illness. Judge says Governor Martinez didn’t follow the NM Constitution: District Court Judge Sarah Singleton ruled recently that the governor did not follow proper procedures in vetoing 10 bills — either because she took too long or did not provide an explanation with each vetoed piece of legislation.
