Most of us understand that the freedom we enjoy as Americans ranks among the greatest of gifts known to man. But like anything of value, it has its price. Those who have lost a loved one in service to our country are all too familiar with the price that must be paid. They know what it’s like to have their worst nightmare come true when they see a government vehicle park in front of their house and two somber messengers approach the door.

While not everyone has had that painful experience, many New Mexicans have lost a family member or know someone who has lost a loved one fighting for our freedom. The Memorial Day Holiday provides an opportunity for Americans to show our gratitude to those who have given their lives to provide our freedom and our compassion for the families of these great heroes.

NMBC wishes you a safe, fun and relaxing Memorial weekend. We encourage everyone to take time to remember and honor the sacrifices made by the brave men and women of our military and their families.
