When it comes to education, New Mexico is still considered ‘worst in the nation’ when it comes to education. For many months, education has been a major debate among candidates, with many of them questioning why we’ve become 51st in education, when we used to be 47th. Clearly this is an area that needs improvement for the well-being of our next generation and our state.
According to a report released by the National Assessment of Educational Progress many students, specifically in 4th and 8th grade, declined in their math and reading scores due to the “…state’s response to the pandemic.” State Education Secretary Kurt Steinhaus stated that these scores are “…what we expected” but still “not acceptable” and “not okay.” So what is the solution?
