Manufacturing Day in New Mexico: Manufacturers contribute over $2 trillion to the U.S. economy, 12 percent of GDP and supports an estimated 17.6 million jobs in the United States—about one in six private-sector jobs. Nationwide, more than 12 million Americans (or 9 percent of the workforce) are employed directly in manufacturing. And in New Mexico, the average annual compensation within the manufacturing industry was over $58,000.

New Mexico Business Coalition Joins NAM as State Partner

Washington, D.C., September 14, 2015 – The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) welcomes the New Mexico Business Coalition (NMBC) as the association’s newest State Associations Group (SAG) member. The NAM’s SAG program consists of 51 independent state manufacturers, business and industry associations. With the NMBC’s membership, the NAM has excellent representation in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

Farmington Taxes, ABQ Min Wage, Google Clawbacks

Farmington to Raise Taxes: The Farmington City Council just approved a tax increase to begin in January 2016. This will offset the hold-harmless payments that will be phased out by 2030.

Google’s Out – Heroes In – Fossil Fuel Opposition Update

Google is Leaving NM after announcing it would pull Titan Aerospace out of Moriarty. New Mexico invested $1 million in infrastructure and an additional $141,000 in Job Training Incentive Program (JTIP) funds. Google has agreed to repay the infrastructure investment which will be available for a future tenant.

Protecting the environment and safely extracting natural resources to produce clean and affordable energy is possible. But our state’s ability to prosper is challenged by government regulations and extreme environmentalists’ demands on the extraction and use of those resources. The common sense side of those issues is often silent or missing.
