The New Mexico Business Coalition (NMBC) will be in Santa Fe throughout the Legislative session. We will be providing our popular Heroes and Zeroes report to keep you current on elected officials’ actions and legislation. The report will highlight HEROES who do the right thing to help this state as well as the legislation that hurts the economy, our children and does ZERO good for New Mexicans. With the ZEROES report, we will let you know who is sponsoring the bad legislation and who is supporting it.

Senators Heinrich and Udall are saying that taking more land away from the control of New Mexicans is a good thing! They want to turn the Dona Ana County Organ Mountains into a national monument.

Dear New Mexican Voter:

The New Mexico Business Coalition (NMBC) has created a “Job Creation Report Card” that will track performance of the Governor and New Mexico Legislators during the 2014 Legislative Session for any bill that falls within specific parameters.

The Truth About New Mexico’s Permanent Fund: The NM State Land Grant Permanent Fund currently provides about 15% of the state’s general fund. According to Doug Brown, a former State Investment Council Vice Chairman and current Dean of UNM’s Anderson School of Management, without money each year from the permanent fund, New Mexicans would be paying at least 15% higher taxes.

THE GOOD: NM boasts a major reduction in unemployment benefit fraud: Government efficiency (the wise and prudent use of taxpayers’ money), is an important part of a healthy economy. The NMBC commends Celina Bussey and the Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) for the efficient use of tax dollars by dropping the fraud rate of unemployment benefits 60% from 2012 to 2013. Congratulations Secretary Bussey!

NM Rep Archuleta Does it Again: Phillip Archuleta, the freshman Representative from Las Cruces, is bringing new meaning to the expression, “bought and paid for.”

Is the Bernalillo County Commission above the law? Apparently, that’s what Commissioners Maggie Hart Stebbin, Chair, Debbie O’Malley, Vice Chair, and Art De La Cruz seem to think. These three Commissioners are currently planning to pass the “Taxpayer Protection Act”. Commissioners Wayne Johnson and Lonnie Talbert are opposed.
