Decision 2016, Bad Ordinances, Good Energy, NM Heroes & More

So Many Issues: In the midst of important issues our elected officials (and voters) should be focused on, the Bernalillo County Commission has called a special meeting for Thursday, September 8, at 2pm. The point of the meeting is what to do with an Albuquerque Ordinance that will dictate to employers the type of paid leave they provide employees. While the issue is in Albuquerque for now, it has implications for every city in the state. NMBC will be at the meeting with several business owners to speak against the ordinance being placed on the November 8 ballot.

Support for O & G, Less Gov & Good Candidates

NMBC Invites You to Attend a Rally in SE New Mexico Supporting our Oil and Gas Industry and 'Push Back' Against the 'Keep it in the Ground-ers': Are you tired of special interest groups attacking New Mexico's Oil and Gas Industry with their anti-fossil fuel agenda? NMBC is and we're joining others to rally in Roswell, celebrating oil and gas and all that it means for NM. Join us Wednesday, August 31, from 6:30 - 8:00 pm in the Roswell Convention and Civic Center Parking lot for a fun, free event!

Our Federal Government is Out of Control: Unless some political force outside of Washington, D.C., intervenes, the federal government will continue to bankrupt this nation, embezzle the legitimate authority of the states, and destroy the liberty of the people. Rather than securing the blessings of liberty for future generations, Washington, D.C., is on a path that will enslave our children and grandchildren to the debts of the past. The problem is big, but NMBC is up for the challenge and will be in Virginia to demonstrate a solution. Article V gives us a tool to fix the mess in D.C.

Historic Williamsburg, Va., will host a first-ever practice of a Convention of States (COS) next month. The practice COS will focus on shutting down President Obama's use of executive orders and blocking the Supreme Court's heavy hand by returning power to state governments long overshadowed by Washington. The "Convention of States Project" said Monday that it is hosting the meeting September 21-23 in Colonial Williamsburg to show how the event, proposed in the Constitution's Article V, would work to restore a power balance between the federal and state governments. PRC Misled, Corporate Welfare, Upcoming BASH & More…

NMBC Members Give NM Public Regulation Commissioners Feedback supporting Cleaner Air and Carbon-Free Energy in NM (Sign the Petition HERE): An articulate and engaged NMBC member had some the following thoughtful feedback for the NM PRC:

“Dear NMPRC Commissioners: I respectfully submit to all five PRC Commissioners the following comments in opposition to the proposed rate cuts.

The NMPRC may be on the cusp of making a really bad decision to cut PNM’s requested rate by about two-thirds. While the PRC Evaluator may believe that such a reduction is in the best interest of the rate payers, I think that not having the leverage of PNM’s negotiated Palo Verde position will be more expensive in the long run because alternative fuels to supply the delta distribution will be more costly than nuclear and contain carbon emissions; which nuclear does not.

It’s Time we Turn Lemons into Lemonade

New Mexico can’t go much lower in many of our national ratings and the outflow of great people is evident that many are looking for something better. No doubt about it, there has to be something better for our educational system and our economy.

But what about making it better here? What about getting out of the cesspool of opinions about New Mexico and looking for solutions?

We want to hear from you on ideas that go beyond the ‘box’ of our borders – that span the horizons to better our lives in New Mexico. Here are a couple of ideas that are hugely outside the norm and, quite frankly, outside the comfort zone of many:

NM Candidates Rock in Farmington!

The Farmington Job Interview BASH (Business and Social Hour) held on July 26th was a great success, informative and a lot of fun too! The event provided some of New Mexico’s statewide and congressional candidates the opportunity to let voters know where they stand on the issues.

The New Mexico Business Coalition (NMBC) thanks our event partner, Audra Winters, Executive Director of the Farmington Chamber of Commerce, our host, T. Greg Merrion, Merrion Oil and Gas, and Eddy Aragon, The Rock of Talk who interviewed candidates.
