PRC Misled, Corporate Welfare, Upcoming BASH & More…

NMBC Members Give NM Public Regulation Commissioners Feedback supporting Cleaner Air and Carbon-Free Energy in NM (Sign the Petition HERE): An articulate and engaged NMBC member had some the following thoughtful feedback for the NM PRC:

“Dear NMPRC Commissioners: I respectfully submit to all five PRC Commissioners the following comments in opposition to the proposed rate cuts.

The NMPRC may be on the cusp of making a really bad decision to cut PNM’s requested rate by about two-thirds. While the PRC Evaluator may believe that such a reduction is in the best interest of the rate payers, I think that not having the leverage of PNM’s negotiated Palo Verde position will be more expensive in the long run because alternative fuels to supply the delta distribution will be more costly than nuclear and contain carbon emissions; which nuclear does not.

It’s Time we Turn Lemons into Lemonade

New Mexico can’t go much lower in many of our national ratings and the outflow of great people is evident that many are looking for something better. No doubt about it, there has to be something better for our educational system and our economy.

But what about making it better here? What about getting out of the cesspool of opinions about New Mexico and looking for solutions?

We want to hear from you on ideas that go beyond the ‘box’ of our borders – that span the horizons to better our lives in New Mexico. Here are a couple of ideas that are hugely outside the norm and, quite frankly, outside the comfort zone of many:

NM Candidates Rock in Farmington!

The Farmington Job Interview BASH (Business and Social Hour) held on July 26th was a great success, informative and a lot of fun too! The event provided some of New Mexico’s statewide and congressional candidates the opportunity to let voters know where they stand on the issues.

The New Mexico Business Coalition (NMBC) thanks our event partner, Audra Winters, Executive Director of the Farmington Chamber of Commerce, our host, T. Greg Merrion, Merrion Oil and Gas, and Eddy Aragon, The Rock of Talk who interviewed candidates.

Where have the Heroes gone? We Know…

REMINDER: The Farmington Candidate Job Interviews are tonight! The BASH (Business and Social Hour), is from 5:00 pm– 7:00 pm tonight at Merrion Oil and Gas.

We see acts of extreme bravery each and every day from men and women who put their lives on the line to protect and serve us. President Ronald Reagan once said, “Those who say that we're in a time when there are no heroes, they just don't know where to look.”

NMBC couldn’t agree more. There ARE many Heroes protecting our way of life and we wanted to say, “Thank You,” to our men and women in blue with this video by Paul Harvey titled ‘Policeman’.

Is Better Leadership in NM Possible?

The reasons New Mexico has some of the highest unemployment, poverty and crime rates in the nation are complex. One thing stands out, however, and it points to the value of quality leadership.

It's not uncommon in New Mexico to hear of federal investigations and court actions to include oversight of an appointed 'Special Master' or 'Monitor' due to problems with how things have (or have not) been done. Regardless of the complexity of the issues, it's evident that leadership at many levels has an important role in where we are today and the ability of our state to improve as we go forward.

So the question is: "Can leaders improve, learn from others and be motivated to do better?" Fortunately, the answer is 'yes,' and the Global Leadership Summit (GLS) is coming up on August 11th and 12th to provide that opportunity. With five in-state locations to choose from, New Mexicans don't have to travel far to benefit from outstanding faculty of world-class teachers and speakers either. New Life New Mexico, at 2701 American Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM, 87124 is hosting the GLS for the second year in a row.
