The Squeaky Wheel Gets the Grease

Commentary by Cristina Arnold, Regional Vice President, New Mexico Business Coalition

The Roswell Healthcare Solutions Group recently met at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center with legislators, community leaders and physician recruiters from the area, to discuss the current crisis of obtaining and retaining healthcare providers for Roswell and the surrounding communities.

The New Mexico Business Coalition (NMBC) joined the Healthcare Solutions group when we realized that not only is the lack of providers in our area a problem for the residents and business owners of Roswell, it is also affecting the community’s ability to attract companies that will provide jobs and revenue needed to impact economic growth in our area.

Got Truth? New Energy Economy could use some!

New Energy Economy (NEE) has a knack for sensationalism and fund raising, but not for telling the truth. And now they have fallen subject to the NMBC Truth Project.

Why should anyone care what NEE says? Its false and misleading statements have left the realm of their funders and followers and have now hit the mainstream where they are attempting to impact regulatory decisions.

The problem is that it may have worked.

Think you can’t be fooled?

Mandated paid sick leave for all employees (full-time, part-time, temporary, and seasonal) with no exceptions for small businesses or non-profit organizations will be on the Albuquerque ballot October 3. If the proposed sick leave ordinance in Albuquerque passes, you can bet the same type law/ordinance will be coming to the city you live in. NMBC has joined with other businesses and groups as the Albuquerque Coalition for a Healthy Economy to oppose the ABQ ordinance. There are many reasons why voters in Albuquerque should reject this law and others around the state should take notice – learn more HERE.

Is Government Waste Okay With Voters?

Capital Projects, General Obligation Bonds and Property Taxes: Frequently on ballots are ‘Bond Questions’ that relate to capital projects (construction of buildings, roads, … etc.) funded through property taxes. You may recall NMBC has encouraged voters to consider the use of those tax dollars, not just the emotional appeal such as ‘it’s for the kids'.

New Study Shows Manufacturing Demand for Natural Gas Will Grow

NAM Study Shows Positive Natural Gas Impacts in New Mexico and Across U.S.

Washington, D.C. and Albuquerque, NM, May 3, 2016 – Today, the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Center for Manufacturing Research and IHS Economics released a new comprehensive study that reveals how natural gas has strengthened manufacturing and encouraged U.S. manufacturing growth and employment and highlights the positive impact to communities around the United States. New Mexico Business Coalition (NMBC), the State Affiliate Group (SAG) for the NAM echos the importance of the NAM findings as manufacturers in New Mexico use natural gas for fuel, such as drying, melting, machine drive and space heating, and as a feedstock in refining, chemicals and primary metals sectors. Domestic natural gas has transformed the U.S. economy, made our companies more competitive, created jobs and put money back in the pockets of working Americans.
