A Great Turn-out for the NMBC Energy Summit Held in Albuquerque Yesterday:
The room at the Albuquerque Sheraton was packed yesterday at the New Mexico Business Coalition Energy Summit. While environmental groups were shouting at a “Millionaires for Global Warming” protest outside, over 130 business and community leaders were inside the Summit focusing on a ‘common sense, level headed’ approach to producing clean, affordable and reliable energy.
The Albuquerque City Council has introduced an ordinance that has the ability to knock small businesses in Albuquerque to their knees. This ordinance, proposed by councilors Klarissa Pena and Isaac Benton, is an intrusive government over reach.
How important is affordable electricity, 811 jobs and annual royalties and taxes of over $40 million to New Mexico? Not a concern at all for radical environmental groups that would like to see the San Juan Generating Station (SJGS) completely shut down and for the power to be replaced with solar energy. Their plan is estimated to cost $1.5 billion.
Tax Increase Costs Lab $2 Million: The Bernalillo County tax hike set to begin on July 1 will add about 19 cents onto every $100 purchase of most goods and services. This increase will cost Sandia National Laboratories about $2 million a year, and an estimated $64 per household. Read more on the tax HERE.
Fracking Safe for Drinking Water: Earlier this month, the EPA released a report stating that they found no evidence of hydraulic fracturing to drill for oil and natural gas causing widespread impact to drinking water in the U.S.
Protecting the environment and safely extracting natural resources to produce clean and affordable energy is possible. But our state’s ability to prosper is challenged by government regulations and extreme environmentalists’ demands on the extraction and use of those resources. The common sense side of those issues is often silent or missing.
